If you’re using InDesign to edit your content and need to create a print-ready PDF for a professional printer, here is how to create a PDF in an optimum format for print.
Step 1: Review the Provided PDF Layout
Step 2: Open and Edit in InDesign
Open the InDesign file from the ZIP folder.
Install any required fonts (included in the download) before editing.
Make all necessary text or design edits in InDesign.
Step 3: Export as Print-Ready PDF
Once you're done editing:
Go to the top menu and click: File > Adobe PDF Presets > Press Quality
In the Save As window:
Choose a file name and save location.
In the Export Adobe PDF dialog box:
Under the General tab:
Change Export As from Pages to Spreads
Go to the Marks and Bleeds tab:
Check:
Crop Marks
Use Document Bleed Settings
Include Slug Area
(Optional) Save these settings as a custom preset for quicker exports in the future.
Click Export.
Step 4: Review Your Final PDF
Once the export is complete:
Locate the new PDF file.
Open it to verify the layout matches the example you viewed earlier.
It should be fully print-ready, with crop marks and spreads properly set.
Final Tip
Always send a test file to your printer first to confirm it meets their specifications before placing a full print order.
